The Application Approval Process
Outline of Responsibilities
Sponsor
The sponsor’s responsibility can be summarized as “Make a friend, Be a friend, Bring that friend to Christ”. This is greatly expanded upon in the Sponsor’s Booklet. Anyone considering sponsoring someone for a weekend should obtain and read it.
The sponsor should know his candidate and the candidate’s family very well – to the point that the sponsor would be able to complete most of the information on the candidate application form. The sponsor must be willing to make the commitment to prepare the candidate for the weekend, get the candidate to the weekend and lead the candidate into his fourth day. The sponsor must be grouping and, preferably, be attending Ultreya regularly. If this is not the case, the sponsor will not be able to properly introduce the candidate to the fourth day.
Pastor
The pastor’s responsibility is to verify that the candidate is indeed a member of his parish in good standing and is eligible to receive the Sacraments.
Ultreya Leader
The Ultreya Leader’s responsibility is to approve not the candidate, but the sponsor. The Ultreya Leader may well never have met the candidate, but he must know the sponsor and be able to verify that the sponsor is grouping and attending Ultreya. If the prospective sponsor does not, or cannot, attend Ultreya regularly, the Ultreya leader should suggest a co-sponsor who will be able to properly attend to that part of the candidates fourth day.
All applications should include a check for $100. If there is need for assistance, please contact the Ultreya leader. An application will never be denied due to lack of funds.
All applications should be returned to the Ultreya leader for submission to the Rector/Rectora.
